NRV Het Galjoen
Rowing has always been a cornerstone sport for students. Consequently, following the commencement of the first academic year, the 'N.O.I.B. Studenten Roei- en Zeilvereniging' was founded on November 25, 1946.
This establishment makes NRV Het Galjoen the first and oldest student association on campus. Shortly after its founding, the association was allocated its Boathouse. From these humble beginnings, the association grew significantly in terms of both material and membership, peaking in the 1990s when nearly 95% of the student body were members.
Since the 1990s, local civilians have also been granted the right to become members. After 1995, the name was changed to Nijenrode Roeivereniging Het Galjoen.
In the early 2000s, the Boathouse underwent a complete renovation, receiving a new foundation, flooring, roofing, and raft. Today, Het Galjoen boasts professional equipment, offers coaching, organizes races and events, and participates in rowing competitions both nationally and internationally. Het Galjoen allows students to form their own teams and receive coaching from experienced competition rowers and alumni.
Rowing is the biggest sport carried out by students. Het Galjoen opens the door to this expansive student world in the Netherlands. By taking up rowing, members get the chance to compete against other associations and enjoy parties and events across the country.
The pinnacle achievement for student rowers across the Netherlands is participating in the annual Varsity. For over 140 years, the Varsity has been the yearly competition between all student rowing associations. Het Galjoen proudly participates in this prestigious race.
For nearly eight decades, Het Galjoen has existed to promote rowing, facilitate competitions, and foster fellowship. Give rowing a chance and see what it can bring you.
Geef een ruk aan die palen, als je écht alles uit je studententijd wilt halen!
